Clan Iain Abrach ~ MacIain Rules of Membership
Rules Established Jan 8, 2005
We Are and we Aren't
-
We are a family-oriented group, which exists for the purpose of educating and
entertaining the public, about history within a context the audience can
understand.
-
We are not, nor are we trying to be, 100% historically accurate.
-
We do demonstrate historical weapons.
-
We do not do full speed, live steel activities.
-
We do not dothings that would get us on the TV Show, “World’s Dumbest Ideas”, even if it seemed like fun at the time.
-
We will provide highland hospitality to a wandering performer who needs it.
-
We do not provide space for every Tom, Dick and Harry to unload their cars into our encampment.
-
We are more than happy to share the space we are given, on a case by case basis.
-
We are structured to provide food, for our membership, who are gate listed with us.
-
We are not structured to provide lunch for extended families of past members or the entire entourage of the Duke of Outer Slobobia.
-
We do require that our members contribute to our educational performance environment for about four hours of each faire day.
-
We do not expect our members to spend every moment in camp.
-
We do require our members to help with setup and/or tear-down of the encampment.
-
We do not expect our gate listed members to arrive late for notes or to leave an event early, unless they communicate with an officer of the guild.
-
We are a group of friends and family who attend Renaissance Faires, Scottish Games and other events together.
-
We are not a way for non-members to get into an event.
-
We do use historically inaccurate aspects (such as the Kilt, andEnglish instead of Gaelic) to help the Audience understand who we are and what we are trying to teach them.
-
We do have non-period fun at faire when appropriate.(e.g.bunny-ears in the closingparade).
-
We do not wear horns, wings or other fantasy pieces which would distract from our Historical Accuracy in the Encampment unless they are part of an educational gig.
-
We do use modern conveniences wherethey are not visible to the public (i.e.Velcro for the center curtain and folding plastic tables back-stage) or where they are required for safety purposes. (i.e. fire extinguisher visible in the kitchen)
-
We do not use historically inaccurate modern ideas simply because those same components existed historically. IE“if they had fish and rice, they would have made sushi.”They would have made fish stew.
