The Master Gunner's Message

by Tim Jesus
11/1/2003 1:00:00 PM

Hope this finds everyone doing well and in good sprits, getting ready for the hectic holiday season. Here is a quick overview of our last gig of the season, The Folsom Ren Faire. Weather was fairly warm all weekend but the breezes made it manageable. A lot of familiar vendors were there, and a few we don't see too often.

The faire board decided that we should be in the same spot in the back corner of site. Jacque did a great job working with the limited space we were given. Working with Frasier set both groups into a small, U shaped courtyard. It was the best we could have hoped for with that space.

Greg did a wonderful job with the Cast Iron Chef gig. It was a huge success... even though the ingredient was dried fish. Greg wore his armor all day, mostly, in my opinion, out of fear of being attacked by a chef or a chef's encampment. The fish smelled really bad, in both the dried and re-constituted forms. In fact, at one point, a group marched by and one of the members said to Greg, "We'll get you, Stinky." Referring to the fish odor that was permeating faire and their encampment.

As a side note, Relley and Melanie not only survived cooking in the cast iron chef gig but they brought home a THIRD PLACE finish, with an interesting fish chowder. I know there were other folks working with them but I don't remember who. Sorry. There were a total of five dishes presented to the court, so "well done" on coming in third place.

It was also nice to see so many bodies in attendance. I don't know if we had all forty something people there, but there were enough to have a contingent in parade and staff the camp at the same time. I want to mention a special THANK YOU to Greg, Scott and Diana for loading the trailer Monday morning, so we didn't have to wait for the trailer Sunday night. It got us off site really quickly.

With Folsom behind us, this brings another season to a close. This year has seen lots of changes, with Valhalla being canceled, the kitchen being changed to mostly non-cooking, and the overall amount of stuff we carry being reduced, it has been interesting. It is my hope that everyone had a good season and to see everyone at the Saint Andrews Awards Party in the beginning of December.

Wishing You Holiday Happiness, Tim Jesus
